Weekend breakfasts

My eating habits Monday-Friday differ massively from my culinary exploits at the weekend. In particular, the biggest contrast comes at breakfast time. During the week, it doesn’t get any more glamorous than fruit and yoghurt, usually guzzled at my desk.

At the weekend it’s a whole different matter. Think eggs perfectly poached on sourdough bread with some smoked salmon, or grilled Crombies sausages served on ciabatta, accompanied of course by vats of freshly brewed coffee, and the weekend papers. Time is not a concern on Saturday or Sunday mornings. The options are endless, and generally I start planning my weekend breakfast around Thursday, when it’s almost close enough to smell.

This Saturday, it was cafe au lait and French patisserie. Which one of the above did I choose? You guessed it, I had both!

In time for planning this Saturday’s delights, tell me your favourite weekend breakfast. I am ready to be inspired!

Ahh I love Crombies sausages! They are the best. Also all of their Christmas meats, which I must get round to ordering soon… know what you mean about weekend breakfasts. I think eggs in some perfect form, on toast, with a cup of freshly ground black coffee, is my favourite Saturday breakfast. Or, no – possibly homemade pancakes with streaky bacon, drizzled all over with maple syrup. It just floors me every time. I live for weekend food!

You’re a girl after my own heart Charlotte – I also live for weekend food. I got the Crombies Christmas meats catalogue emailed to me the other day. There are so many tasting looking things in there.

Eggs and bread are a classic weekend combination! I love eggy bread with crispy bacon and maple syrup, or just good old scrambled eggs on toast. Pancakes are always good too!

Scrambled eggs and toast is always a default for me Kate, it’s so comforting.

Ooh soft poached egg and smoked bacon on a toasted muffin with a cup of tea. Or bagels and cream cheese. Or pancakes and croissants. Damn it, that’s made me hungry again.

Both is a good choice ;) I tend to refuse to have cereal at the weekend unless it’s ‘fun’ cereal, so usually we have pancakes or huge smoothies (basically things that you have no time for Monday to Friday!)
