Things that made me smile this January

Coffee and croissant

January is always a really hard month and the cold dark mornings make it that much more difficult to leave the warmth and cosiness of bed. Getting back into a routine after the holidays and accepting that chomping my way through all that cheese has definitely NOT agreed with my waistline is a bit of a bummer too. Boo. But that being said, there were also a lot of things that made me smile in January and here are just a few of them.

1. Starting more days than I should with a latte and a croissant. Having this for breakfast as I listen to French music means I can actually pretend I am enjoying my petit dejeuner in Paris. Some days I swear I should have been born French.

2. Welcoming 2015 in Port Patrick with my friends. It was a great to get out of Edinburgh and be by the sea.

3. Making Kathryn’s tofu fritters for dinner. I have never been a big fan of tofu, but I put it down to the fact that I have never had it cooked well. After making her recipe, I am converted. You should give it a go too.

4. Winning Miranda’s sleek techniques competition. The DVD arrived today and I can’t wait to give it a go. Thanks again, Miranda!

5. Becoming best friends with my spiralizer. Is there anything I won’t try to spiralise? The answer is no.

What has made you smile this month?

Croissants are the best, aren’t they Jessica? Almond, chocolate or just plain, I can’t get enough of them!x

AHH I tried to find a spiralizer at Bed Bath & Beyond but they didn’t have one in the store! I was shocked. I need to order one online because I keep hearing about how great they are!

They have a really good selection of spiralisers on Amazon, Tami, so you might find one there :-)

I’ve been on the pain au chocolat a fair bit this month. It is yum and I think it has been so cold it has been needed a bit more this month. But time to rest and restock. Making me smile this week has been friends and making exciting plans.

    • http://www.wineandolives.co.uk/ Chiara Pannozzo

I totally agree Siobhan! My usual breakfast of cold green juice is no match for a hot coffee and warm croissant. I’m looking forward to reading more about your exciting plans :-)

It looks like you had a great start to January in Port Patrick. The photos are beautiful! I like the idea of a roundup of what made you smile. For mine, I’d say snow days with my puppy and slowly seeing a bit more sun after work each day. :)

Thanks Jaclyn. Aahhh snow days with your puppy, how amazing! I am super jealous x

Agh, that picture makes me hate my morning musli. And I’ve run out of kitchen gadgets to buy Jim but now I know I’m getting him a spiraliser! What a great term too! Making me happy this month has been finally painting the bathroom, and booking a holiday! wahoo!

    • http://www.wineandolives.co.uk/ Chiara Pannozzo

Amazing Em, where are you going on holiday? I had another croissant this morning – oops! I must make more of an effort next week x

We’re going to Canada and America for 3 weeks. Can not wait – a bit of snowboarding and a LOT of eating is in store!

That is pretty much perfection in a picture.

I can’t believe you actually made my fritters/ you have no idea how incredibly happy it makes me to know that you tried them and liked them. By far the best part of my day. Thank you so much!

Here’s hoping February is filled with even more good things :)

Thanks Natalie! The spiralizer really is fantastic – I’m pretty much spiralizing everything in site now ;-)

Oh, that picture is perfect! What a way to start the day!

I must be one of the odd ones. I actually LOVE the month of January. I take full advantage of the short days and cold weather to let myself off the hook from staying as busy as I usually do. We spend more cozy nights in during the month of January than we do the rest of the year combined! :)

    • http://www.wineandolives.co.uk/ Chiara Pannozzo

Sarah I love this! You could have just solved the January blues problem. Maybe if I think of January like you do, I would actually enjoy it. Thanks for dropping by my blog Sarah, I really appreciate it xxx

#1, I need to do this more! What a difference it makes to start your days with a little treat :)

  • http://www.deutsch-bitte.net/ Natalye

Oh, a spiralizer… cool! Also a latte and a croissant sounds like a great way to kick off your morning. I admit I have been starting my mornings this month with coffee and a Splitterbrötchen (a semi-sweet Berlin pastry).

It’s been my mission to own a spiralizer after seeing that recipe you posted. I will have one soon. I love those moments when you get the distinct feeling that you could just as easily be somewhere else! I’m glad you were able to feel like you were in France without spending a dime on travel :D
