The Apartment

When Match.com got in touch with me and asked me to recommend a restaurant that would make a good choice for a first date, I barely hesitated. The first eaterie that popped into my mind was a stylish venue, in a very cool part of town, that most importantly serves fantastic food and has the sort of laid back vibe that makes it the perfect place to get to know someone that bit better. I bet you’re desperate to know where I’m talking about? It could only be The Apartment.

In the true spirit of a first date, we decided an informal lunch would be a little less intense than a three-course dinner. The Apartment’s menu is such that there is something for everyone. There are soups, salads, larger main dishes and a selection of skewers, served with warm pitta bread crammed full with delicious beetroot coleslaw.

Torn between the shepherd’s pie, the lamb burger and steak sandwich, the protein-packed option won out, as Rob devoured the perfectly cooked steak, served on ciabatta with rocket and parmesan. Accompanied by fries, it made for a great lunch.

I couldn’t see past the harissa and feta lamb ball skewers, served with spiced aubergines and peppers, and of course that delicious beetroot coleslaw I was talking about earlier. True to form, I ordered a side of garlicky fries to go with … I’m nothing if not a creature of habit.

We were both pretty full after this, but we were intrigued by the selection of sweet things to nibble on the dessert menu. This was essentially bite-sized offerings of each of the sweet treats on the menu and was the perfect solution if you wanted a little something to round off your meal without having a whole pudding.

I love The Apartment and the great food, relaxed atmosphere and stylish surroundings make it the perfect place to go for a first date.
