Tales from the weekend #5

Saturday was one of those rare days when we woke up super early, got organised and headed out pre-breakfast. To put this into context, ordinarily I take Saturday mornings a little slower. I normally have a bit of a lie in and when I do get up, I make myself a huge pot of coffee and drink my way through most of it whilst I read the papers. Bliss. But yesterday we broke the mould and it was great.

Eggs benedict at Clouds and Soil

First stop, breakfast. We stayed local and went to Clouds & Soil. There was eggs benedict on the menu, so my decision was made – it’s probably my favourite breakfast dish – and Rob had the full Scottish breakfast. Both dishes were really good and with appetites now satisfied we were ready to take on the city.

It was a beautiful day in Edinburgh yesterday. The sky was blue, the weather was crisp but not too cold and there wasn’t a breath of wind. We went for a walk around Edinburgh Castle, before heading to the farmers’ market to pick up some ingredients for dinner.

On our way home, we stopped off for coffee before heading back to the flat and watching the sky turn pink over glasses of wine. All in all, it was a pretty perfect Saturday.

What did you get up to this weekend?

So cool that you can just go for a walk around a castle! I wish there was a castle near me

Living in Edinburgh means the castle is always part of the landscape but unfortunately we do take it for granted sometimes. It’s only when I speak to other people and mention it that I realise how lucky we are to have it. I hope you had a great weekend too x

Like Jessica said, I wish there was a castle near me to roam around! My weekend was good- my Saturday started off slow with coffee & blog reading (kind of how you described your typical Saturdays!) and then I got to work on my school assignments for the week. My Sunday will consist of more school assignments, cleaning, & cooking a southwest steak salad for dinner tonight :) A slow, but relaxing weekend! It’s raining here in California which is rare, so I’m taking advantage of using the weather as an excuse not to go anywhere :P. I hope you have a great week!

It is kind of cool Jenny, but like I was saying to Jessica, I sometimes take it a bit for granted as it’s always been there. I need to get better and realising just how nice it is to have it a castle on our doorstep! Your Saturday morning sounds right up my street and I am so jealous of the southwest steak salad you had for dinner last night – it sounds really good!x

Thank you! Edinburgh is a pretty cool place :-)

This sounds like the perfect Saturday! I love getting an early start to my day. I just feel so accomplished and like I’m making the most of everything. Those pictures are making me hungry!! My boyfriend and I managed to get out for a date night this weekend, so that’s always a nice treat!

Thanks Brooke! I need to get more early starts in on the weekend, it definitely makes it feel like the weekend lasts so much longer. And a date night sounds great – I love a good date night x

Eggs benedict is my favourite! I love Edinburgh so very much. Amazing you can just go there whenever you want!

    • http://www.wineandolives.co.uk/ Chiara Pannozzo

Mine too Holly! Whenever we go out for brunch I always tell myself I’ll have something else, but then when I can get there I can never see past the eggs benedict. And thanks for your kind words about Edinburgh. I think it’s a pretty amazing place, but I guess I’m biased ;-)

Yeah, I am the same, if I go somewhere that has eggs benedict I have to have them, but our local greasy spoon breakfast place doesn’t do it, which is a shame but equally is not unexpected!

I had a really lazy Saturday too – which was so nice. I’m usually one of those “get up and go” people but every now and then, sleeping in can be such a treat. Your breakfast looks delicious!

There’s a really great little farmer’s market right near my apartment, but they’re closed for the winter. I can’t wait til May for them to be open again!

I bet you can’t wait until May Kathryn – a good farmers market is hard to beat. I definitely need to become more of a get up and go person at the weekend – I feel like I would cram so much more in :-) x

I ate all the cake. All of it. Or I went to Love Crumbs and had two rounds of cake and then watched Gilmore Girls and ate junk food (as junk food is compulsory when watching Gilmore Girls) with a friend. Pretty perfect for a Saturday I think (we also went to John Lewis to ogle glassware).

OMG Love Crumbs! I’m hardly surprised you ate all of the cake, their cake is to die for! And I’m a huge Gilmour Girls fan too, I love their witty banter! Sounds like you had an amazing Saturday Siobhan x

Eggs Benedict is one of my favorite breakfasts — I drool over poached eggs. That bread at the farmers’ market looks incredible, too. I saw a play and tried okonomiyaki for the first time on Saturday :)

    • http://www.wineandolives.co.uk/ Chiara Pannozzo

Ooh what did you think of okonomiyaki? I’ve wanted to try it for a while x

      • http://acrossthehogsback.wordpress.com/ Gianni Washington

It’s delicious (at least at the place where I tried it)! Next time you’re in London, visit Abeno Too if you can. My okonomiyaki included a mix of pork, prawn, and kimchi in addition to the usual ingredients (cabbage, egg, onions, ginger, flour, and potato). I definitely recommend it!

Thanks Miranda! I love eggs benedict too, it always seems like such a treat x

  • Hannah Webster

This looks lovely, although its not helping me that I’ve been craving eggs benedict desperately all week! I’m hoping this weekend is going to involve lots of food and seeing friends for us, lovely :) x

I hope your weekend involves eggs benedict Hannah! Have a great one xxx
