Spinach, green pepper and lime smoothie

Blend Active 1I have gone a bit juice and smoothie crazy recently. I’m passing on porridge more days than not in order to get a good shot of greens in me for breakfast. This means that I’m experimenting a lot with different flavour combinations to mix up the nutrients I’m getting. Up until recently, I’ve used my liquidiser to make my smoothies and juices, until the lovely people at Debenhams sent me a Breville Blend Active, an amazing smoothie maker that comes with two portable cups, which makes life so much easier.

If you are looking to invest in a smoothie maker, I would highly recommend the Blend Active, which comes with two bottles that you blend your smoothie in. They then detach and away you go. There’s no faff with having to clean a liquidiser or juicer – all the mess is contained within the one cup that is easy to clean.

Blend Active 2

So what was the first smoothie I made with my new toy? It was a super green spinach, green pepper and lime drink. If you want to make one yourself, start with 125ml of water and blend half a green pepper, 125g of spinach and the juice of one lime. Blend until smooth and there you have it, an entirely guilt free drink.

To help me on my quest to a fitter, healthier me, Debenhams also sent me a gorgeous Speedo swimsuit, so I’ll be incorporating a swim or two into my fitness routine each week. And look out for more smoothie posts in the coming weeks.

What’s on your menu for breakfast at the moment? And how is your fitness routine going?

I would highly recommend it Valerie. The price point in the UK for this smoothie maker is pretty reasonable so hopefully it will be the same case in the States x

Mmm, this looks great, and the blend active looks so much easier to clean than the juicer I have!! I do love making juices, but my go-to weekday breakfast is overnight muesli! I make it up the night before, and it’s there waiting for me to grab in the morning, which always makes me happy! xxx

Ooh I love overnight muesli. What do you put in yours? I’ll need to give that a go as well – if I keep having so many smoothies, I’m going to end up sickening myself of them ;-)

I love that you can detach the bottle and quickly start your day. Really convenient!

It’s super convenient Jessica. I’ve made three different smoothies with it already and with minimal mess. Hurrah!x

Okay, I have to admit this smoothie sounds a little bit more out there than what I usually blend up – but I will give it a try! I trust you, Chiara!

I’ve been drinking a lot of smoothies for breakfast lately. i like making a big one and then drinking half for breakfast and keeping half in the fridge so I have a snack ready when I get home from work. I’d also love to go swimming more often – it’s such a great all-body workout! I know that I should suck it up and go to the free swims at the school gym, but I’m slightly embarrassed and haven’t gotten my nerve up yet.

You’re right, it is about out there and I wasn’t convinced it was going to work, but the lime really brings it to life. I know what you mean about swimming – I always tend to avoid it down to all the prep I need to go through before if you know what I mean. But saying that, I need to mix my work outs up a bit, so I think the pull is the next step for me. Plus I think it will do me good as I haven’t swan in quite a while so hopefully it will help me to use lots of under-used muscles x

That is amazing! The one thing that is stopping me from making lots of smoothies is having to constantly get the blender out and then having to clean it – this looks so much better!

    • http://www.wineandolives.co.uk/ Chiara Pannozzo

That’s the best part about the Blend Active Holly – no additional part to clean. Plus it’s really convenient not to have to decant it into another bottle. It’s a big thumbs up from me for this product x

It’s fantastic Tara. Definitely spares that mess element that you sometimes get with other smoothie makers x

Interesting flavor combination! My fitness routine has improved simply because I’m taking more walks and eating more regularly. I could definitely stand to do more though! I’d like to start juicing again.

    • http://www.wineandolives.co.uk/ Chiara Pannozzo

Ha ha, it’s a lot tastier than it perhaps sounds. That’s great about the walking – I find it a much easier way to get some exercise in xxx

I’m such a porridge girl, but I usually have a smoothie once a day. I don’t think they’re as healthy as they could be and I really want to start incorporating more green juices. I have a juicer, but I hate cleaning it, so I usually just use my magic bullet. I haven’t been brave enough to go full greens yet (I usually add something sweet), but it’s one of the things I said I would do this year. Did you like the taste of the green juices right away or does it take a bit of adjusting?

    • http://www.wineandolives.co.uk/ Chiara Pannozzo

To be honest, it took a bit of adjusting. So I started making green smoothies that always had some sort of fruit in them. Once I got used to those, I then slowly started reducing the fruit and some of the ones I have now are just vegetable based. It does take some getting used to, but now I do really enjoy them x

It’s so hard to be healthier when there is always so much yummy food on offer ;-)

  • http://www.wineandolives.co.uk/ Chiara Pannozzo

It’s so good, isn’t it Hannah! I hadn’t even thought of using it to blend soups but that is a brilliant suggestion, thanks so much for mentioning it! I’ll be posting more veg based drinks in the future, so hopefully one of the recipes will work for you :-)
