Mother’s Day: the non-gift gift guide

The title of this blog post needs to be elaborated on. When I set my goals for 2016, one of them was to spend less money on things and focus more on experiences, rather than material possessions. Because of this, for Mother’s Day this year I’ll be forfeiting the traditional Mother’s Day gift giving session for more of an experiential gift; in other words, a Champagne lunch chez moi. I’m sure most of you are already organised for Mother’s Day, but in case you’re still looking for inspiration, here are five experiential things you could do with your mum this...

Things that made me smile: February 2016

I thought this was the best post to break my recent silence. Have I lost my blogging mojo? No. Has a house sale, open viewings and trips to see lawyers and financial advisers taken up all of my time? Yes. But I do have good news. In fact, it’s great news. Just a few days ago we accepted an offer on our flat. As you know, I’ve always talked about our flat really fondly – we’ve loved every minute of living there – so it was important to us that it went to people who would enjoy calling it home...

Spaghetti picante with Italian sausage and spinach

Pasta is my favourite thing in the world. It beats chocolate, wine and cheese (although pasta with cheese is probably the best thing ever) and it’s a meal I always look forward to. So you can only imagine my excitement when the lovely people at Expedia sent me a hamper full of Italian goodies, just in time to prepare the perfect meal for Valentine’s Day. As you all know, I’ve been getting my flat ready to sell. With open viewings starting today, we decided to bring our Valentine’s Day meal forward a day, and so yesterday I brought a little...

Pancake week

Pancakes. Those delicious fluffy little clouds that you can whip up in minutes and top with pretty much any ingredients rock my world. Which is why I think that dedicating just one day to these awesome cakes is not enough. I’m instigating Pancake Week … now, who’s with me? For those of you who share my level of enthusiasm for pancakes, you might want a peak at my pancakes board on Pinterest, which houses many a pancake recipe for you to drool over. I’ll be experimenting with a few of those recipes this weekend, but for tonight, I’m heading home...

Sunglasses and salami

I spend a lot of my day dreaming about sunnier climates. That’s probably something to do with the fact that I live in Scotland, which whilst it’s renowned for its beauty, it’s infamous for its weather. Well, let’s put it this way, you wouldn’t plan anything around the weather in this part of the UK as chances are it would do exactly the opposite of what you hoped it would do. The weather in Italy, however, is far more reliable. With guaranteed blue skies and sun shining hard on the picture-postcard landscape, it’s a pretty perfect holiday destination. But not...

Things that made me smile: January 2016

I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty glad that it’s the last day in January. I’m not convinced that the first month of the year is that great for anyone, what with the lack of money, the focus on kale over cake and the glum weather. Yes, I’ve been feeling all of those things, but among all of that, January has had its highlights, and here they are: 1. Getting down with plants – my focus on eating more plant-based foods has made me feel a whole lot better. Here’s to embracing this lifestyle more in 2016. 2. Nadia Reid...
