January 2017 finds

After my last post all about being good to myself (I have, by the way, thanks for asking), my chilled out, stress-free existence has left me with plenty of opportunities to discover new things. Without further delay, here are my January finds: 1. Itsu seaweed thins – wow, just wow. I’m always on the lookout for handbag-friendly, healthy snacks and these tick all the boxes. Tasty? Check. Good for you? Check. Portable? Check. You can find out more about them on the Itsu website and they are available in most supermarkets. 2. Get it On – I love a good podcast....

Be good to yourself: the alternative January survival guide

This is my first week back at work after two weeks off. Normally, when I have 14 days to play with, I go on a foreign holiday or sandwich a city break in between doing various fun activities. But the Christmas break seems to serve a different purpose for me (and most people, I suspect) in that it’s a time to do very little but eat, drink and be merry. I was ill for the first three weeks in December, so I took the stance of chilling out very seriously, to help me get better. I did nothing; no gym...

Decorations: the alternative edit

Why is tomorrow circled in my diary? There’s no birthday or special occasion. I’m not meeting friends or going out for dinner. But I am buying and decorating my Christmas tree, which is worthy of its very own entry. I have the whole evening mapped out, from choosing the tree itself (it’s not as simple as just grab and go, I need to see lots of trees), taking it home and placing it in our bay window, before the real fun begins: decorating. Sunday styling

Dare I say it, our house renovations are *almost* finished. It’s been a long three months but in that time we’ve brought (dragged is a more appropriate way to describe it) our home into the 21st century. Gone is the anaglypta wallpaper that took months to come off. Gone are the dated electrics, replaced with ones that don’t involve a life-threatening flick of the switch. Gone is the whisper peach bathroom, updated with one that doesn’t make you feel like you’re going to attract some hideous disease from using it. And gone are the smells of cats and nicotine. What...

Things that made me smile: October 2016

It’s official, renovating our house has OFFICIALLY taken over my life. Every minute that I’m not at work I’m at the house doing whatever I can to make it a home. But after months of Rob and I putting everything we’ve got into it, it’s *almost* finished. Queue some before and after pictures coming to a blog post near you soon. Still, despite the chaos, there are a few things that have made me smile this month, which are: 1. Rock Rose Gin. I swear the stresses of renovations have definitely increased by Martini consumption and my current base spirit...

My morning routine

I don’t think I’m alone is saying that we’re all curious about how other people manage their days. Whether it’s what time you get up in the morning or what you ate for dinner, I always enjoy comparing and contrasting my life with others. When Rachel’s Organic got in touch and asked me to share how I get my morning off to a good start, I couldn’t resist; since I enjoy reading this kind of post from others, I thought it was high time I took part in my own. I’m what you would classify as a ‘morning person’ and...
