October finds

Dixie sofa Loaf

I can never quite believe how quickly my monthly finds posts come round. I only started doing these posts a few months ago, and my favourite thing about them is that it makes me note down the things that I’ve stumbled upon that I really like. From food finds to interiors, there’s always something out there that I’m either consuming in large measures or making it onto my ever-growing wish list. So with that, here are October’s finds:

1. If the number of catalogues that I haven’t signed up for are anything to go by, direct mail is seeing something of a resurgence. One mailer that I was more than happy to have popped through my letterbox was from Loaf. I’d never heard of the furniture company before and their collection is beautiful. From seriously comfy looking sofas, to the sort of bed you could spend all day in, if you’re on the hunt for new furniture, I would seriously recommend checking them out. Did I also mention I am lusting after the sofa in the picture above?

2. This isn’t exactly a new discovery, but spiced pumpkin lattes have to make it onto my list this month. I adore them and since this is the only time of year I can drink them, I’ve developed quite the one (or two) a day habit.

3. I recently read the book, Nobody is Ever Missing, by Catherine Lacey, and very much enjoyed it. Pretty much the whole book is written in first person, and follows a young woman struggling with mental illness. I’ll caveat this recommendation by saying that this is far from an uplifting read – quite the opposite, actually – but it was one of those books that really made me think.

4. I’ve talked at length about my love for Netflix, and the current show that’s keeping me in on a Saturday night is Grimm. Ordinarily, it’s not the sort of show that I would imagine I’d like, but it’s entertaining and now that I’m on season two, a storyline is developing that’s keeping me guessing. The show follows the lead character Nick, while he negotiates life as a Grimm, a skill that allows him to see the para-humans among us. If that hasn’t got you intrigued nothing will.

5. I’m completely obsessed with John Lewis’s Home Edit board on Pinterest. I could lose myself for hours in their interiors inspiration. It’s bad for my bank balance, but good for the soul.

What new things have you found this month?

Wow, that turquoise sofa, though! I’m totally obsessed. I also watched the first couple of seasons of Grimm and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I think I expected it to be more like Once Upon a Time (which is okay, but a bit cheesy for my tastes), but Grimm is so, well, dark and grim!

My current obsession this month is this company called MoveLoot that we have here in SF. They’re kind of like a Craigslist or eBay but just for local furniture. They take really nice photos of everything they sell for people, and their prices are very low. They even deliver it to your house and, in my case, help you get it up the stairs! Full disclosure, I haven’t actually bought anything from them yet, but I love looking at all their affordable and beautiful furniture.

I haven’t seen Once Upon a Time, but you’re right, I think what gives Grimm its edge is that it is quite dark.

MoveLoot sounds fantastic. So often I think people get put off buying things on the likes of Gumtree because the quality of the photos is poor, but having something like this would remove that problem. I wish we had MoveLoot in Edinburgh.

Have a great weekend when it comes lovely lady x

I love that sofa so much! I can totally see it in my house! It is just gorgeous! I saw Grimm and added it to my watchlist but I am hooked on The Vampire Diaries right now.

That is a gorgeous sofa! I also have that problem with catalogues.. where do they all come from? It’s crazy. If only my budget had increased along with the number of catalogues! xx

I have only ever tried a PSL once and I was quite disappointed. All I remember is that it was much too sweet for me. I expected much more spice, actually. Should I give it another go, then? :)
Thanks so much for sharing the Pinterest link, I LOVE the board and can’t wait to go through the whole thing properly when I have more time. That sofa is perfect. <3
Hope you had a great weekend!

I love that couch. Not only does it look really nice, but I’m sure it’s also very comfortable to sit in. Regarding Netflix, I’ve chosen to stay away from it on purpose, as I don’t have the time to get addicted to a series right now:)

I’m watching Grimm too, I like the idea behind the series. x
