Not even a drop

Four words I never thought I would here myself say: ‘I’m doing Dry January’. Yes, you have read correctly, and no, I haven’t gone mad … yet. This wasn’t something I intended to do. Prior to 01 January, my New Year plans very much included red wine, French Martinis and some Prosecco thrown in for good measure. But then I caught the dreaded lurgy. New Year’s day was spent curled up under a blanket on the couch and when it became clear that this chesty cold wasn’t going anywhere, one dry day turned into six and I decided to just stick with it.

So eight days in, I am as a fresh as a daisy. The faint tint of red wine has departed from my lips and as I embrace full on detox – no chocolate, sweets, white bread etc – I have to say, so far, so good. Now there’s just the remaining 23 days to go. Can it really be this easy? I very much doubt it, but I do love a challenge, and for me this is a pretty significant one.

Are you doing dry January? I’d love to hear your thoughts, especially from those of you that have an alcoholic drink in your hands as you type. You lucky, lucky people

I’m doing it too! Although cheating a bit and only started on Monday, i felt totally pickled after Christmas that it feels nice to detox for now, not sure I’ll still be saying that at the dinner party I’m going to this weekend tho! :s

Feeling your pain there – never been much of a drinker. But now! Now it’s ‘off linits’ I have a thirst for sparkles, bubbles and paper umbrellas like never before!

I know what you mean Lisa. It’s definitely a case of ‘forbidden fruit syndrome’. I’ve resolved to stay strong though, so that much I will do!

I don’t really drink much, and am trying to eventually cut down to not drinking at all ever so I am pleased when everyone is doing dry January as it makes me feel more normal! Good luck though, I think the peer pressure is the worst part, that and wanting what you can’t have!

Thanks Siobhan. I have to say, I’m really looking forward to the 1st of February now :-)
