Madeira: part 1

Madeira sights 16

These breaks I’m having between blog posts seem to be getting longer. I wish I had a more exciting excuse (being swept up in a flurry of shopping, travelling and drinking cocktails, for example), but alas I have just been busy. The sort of busy that takes over everything busy. But this afternoon I feel like I was granted the gift of time and opportunity and I spent it wisely, drinking tea and going through our holiday snaps.

We took literally hundreds of photographs of our trip to Madeira, but I promise not to regale you with them all … or at least not in this post anyway. I’ve decided to break the posts up into a few different posts covering the sights, another talking about food, and a third dedicated to my favourite day on this wonderful island.

So what can I say about Madeira? Well, it is a beautiful place. It’s colourful, the people are incredibly friendly and it has that laid-back island vibe that is oh-so conducive to switching off and doing nothing. And reading books. And drinking cocktails. And sleeping lots. It was exactly the kind of holiday we needed. These photos give you a flavour of what to expect from Madeira, but I’ll go into more detail in my other posts on where to eat, what to see and things to do.

Since we’re achingly close to Friday, I’ll wish you all a good weekend now. Be happy and healthy wherever you are and whatever you are doing!
