January 2016 finds

I’m really excited to write my first monthly finds post of 2016. So far, it’s been a pretty quiet month for me with dry January and December’s financial hangover keeping me largely indoors and away from the lure of spending money. That’s why this month’s list has a slightly more homely focus, but entertaining nonetheless.

1. For Christmas my husband gave me A Modern Way to Eat, a beautiful book filled with delicious vegetarian recipes by Anna Jones. We’ve already tried quite a few of the dishes with great success, and this weekend I’ll be making her crunchy sweet potato fries. I can hardly wait.

2. Sticking with books, I also recently read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, by Marie Kondo. I’m going to be doing a full review of this book in another post but I will say that I am now a convert of the KonMari tidying method.

3. I’ve been completely sucked into Making a Murderer on Netflix. Have you watched it? I’m completely gripped and I’m only half way through the series. I’ll hopefully finish it this weekend as avoiding the spoilers on social media is becoming ever more difficult.

4. A relaxed breakfast in bed on a Saturday morning is good for the soul. Fact.

5. The Simple Things magazine isn’t exactly a new discovery for me, but having spent last night reading the January edition from cover to cover, I just had to write about it. It’s fantastic and really does play to a more simple life, which I’m currently striving for.

Have you found anything new recently that I should know about? Let me know in the comments and I’ll check it out.

I had to gallop through Making a Murderer too as a) so hard to avoid spoilers, and b) I needed to know what happened! Was staying up way too late every evening for a week to get it finished!

It’s amazing, isnt it? I’m hoping to finish it this weekend so my embargo on social media can finally be lifted ;-)

I love this kind of posts! I also have been indoors lots of the time this month so far, and having quiet, relaxing days. And number 4, totally agreed!

Thanks Ree! Yeah, I think breakfast in bed at the weekend is going to become far more of a regular event for me ;-)

Ally, I think you’ll love it! It totally changed my attitude about a lot of things and my house now feels so much better as a result. Let me know what you make of it :-)

I can’t wait to see your KonMari post, Chiara! I seriously had so much fun tidying my flat last year, and I truly think you are the only other soul who understood how exciting that was for me. I kind of wish I could do it again, but her method is just too good! The tidiness sticks!

My new favourite thing? Roasting small cubes of sweet potato with chickpeas (which I put in after the sweet potato has roasted a bit), sprinkled with spices and a bit of coconut oil. Once roasted, sprinkle over mixed greens or rocket. I’ve been adding just a dash of all natural dressing, sprouted pumpkin seeds and shelled hemp seeds for protein — the crunchiness of this salad is so good and not too cold for a January day.

It is so good, isn’t it Lauren. I am completely converted and my flat has never looked better!

I love the sound of that sweet potato dish, I need to try it! Recently, I’ve taken to roasting cauliflower with chick peas but never sweet potato. I’ll try it this weekend :-)
