If the sun was shining …

Gin and raspberry cocktail in the sun

It’s 03 March and it’s snowing today in Edinburgh. Fricking snow … in March. All the optimism I was feeling when I wrote my last post has frozen solid with today’s plummeting temperatures, and in my longing for blue skies and warmer temperatures, I got to thinking about what I would be doing today if the sun was shining.

First of all, I wouldn’t be wearing my winter clothes. I would be adorned in florals, basking in the sunshine, preferably with a cocktail in my hand.

I would go to the beach. It’s been so long since I’ve felt the sand between my toes and listened to the sound of the waves.

I would get lobster and chips from the Lobster Shack in North Berwick. It makes fish and chips decadent.

Ice cream. If the sun is shining and you aren’t eating ice cream, it’s a sad day in my book.

In an ideal world what would you be doing today?

Oh how I wish the sun was shining here as well (okay it is sunny but it is freezing outside!).

Scotland is like that a lot too. It’s blazing sunshine but it still manages to be freezing. It’s such trickery x

I am actually really jealous of all the snow everyone is getting! lol… It’s far too hot here in California, it’s like we didn’t even get winter. :-(http://www.domesticgeekgirl.com

Living in Scotland where we get winter most of the year round, I can’t imagine not having one. Although I think I would trade some of it for a bit more sun ha ha. I am such a sun lover x

We had snow yesterday, but fortunately it didn’t stick around. That doesn’t mean much though because we still have what we had before and that is a mountain so high that I can’t even see my car on the other side. Ah well, the sun is shining today so there’s progress! I love ice cream. It upsets my stomach and is totally worth it :-) I’m hoping to get out to the ocean this weekend. It might be cold, but just being by the sea is an instant pick-me-up!

    • http://www.wineandolives.co.uk/ Chiara Pannozzo

I totally agree Brooke – it’s nice to just be by the sea. I might do the same and head down to the seaside and sit with a blanket and a hot drink and dream of summer x

Since I too am longing for the summer days in an ideal world I would have been sitting under a tree somewhere with a good book in my hands, hiding from the sun, why not while sucking on an popsicle !

Charlie you paint a perfect picture! Fingers crossed that summer will be with us soon x

Oh my goodness, that lobster and ice cream look divine! The sun is very shiny here in California, but we’re in the middle of the worst draught in recorded history, so it’s a little bit ominous… That being said, I’m in a short dress and took a lovely walk outside with the dog today, so I can’t complain :)

Thanks Cat. The lobster is really good – it’s such a nice treat! Ooh I would love to be able to take the dog for a walk in a short dress just now, rather than the dozens of layers I have to wear. Sorry about the drought though – I hope you get some rain soon x

Your day sounds pretty awesome, I would love to join you in all the above if the sun was shining! I know I’d definitely be more willing to be up and about rather than feeling like all I want to do is curl up on the sofa with a book and a giant mug of steaming hot Earl Grey. Oh spring, please come soon, we miss you.

    • http://www.wineandolives.co.uk/ Chiara Pannozzo

I know what you mean! I find it so hard to do much else in the winter than snuggle under a blanket with coffee and books or DVDs. I can’t wait for the weather to get better so I can go and do lots more outside x

Thats incredible! I’m in London at the moment and it wasn’t nearly that bad, but still not spring weather. But if it were summer I would definitely reading a book somewhere in the sand right now… hopefully with that ice cream cone!

I’d love it if you could come check out my blog as well! x afashionneverland.blogspot.com

It was slightly crazy Caroline. I don’t think we’ve ever had snow here in March before, or at least not that I can remember. I’ll definitely come and check your blog out Caroline, thanks for stopping by mine x

I feel like we have been stuck in winter forever Miranda. Hopefully spring won’t be too long in coming – at least the mornings are already getting lighter, that’s a good sign x

Wow…I would follow your lead on a sunny day because these are all great ideas. I’d add a stroll through Hampstead Heath (or any foresty parkland), and some outdoor reading. Lobster and chips?!?!?!?!?!? My life will be incomplete until I try that.

    • http://www.wineandolives.co.uk/ Chiara Pannozzo

Your sunny day sounds perfect too Gianni. I think lobster and chips should definitely become a much bigger thing than it is, it’s so good!x

  • http://www.throughthethicket.ca/ Kathryn

That definitely sounds like an ideal day! That being said, I’m going to the sugar bush tomorrow which is a really fun spring tradition. Plus it’s maple flavoured everything!!
