In my last post I talked about one of my recent finds: 31Dover.com, an online drinks vendor that stocks everything from wine and Champagne, to gin, beer and barware. Their range – and knowledge – of liquor is seriously impressive.
Last week, the fabulous people behind this website sent me a bottle of Bloom London Dry Gin. As you know, I’m a fan of gin; my go to Friday night drink is a Martini, enjoyed either in the bath or in front of the fire. So you can imagine how excited I was to mix up my usual juniper variety with this new one.
First impressions are everything and the Bloom bottle is hard to ignore; it’s stunning and would certainly stand out on the bar. An empty bottle would also make a great vase – or is that just me?
Bloom is a masterclass in how to make a floral gin, without being too overpowering. It has gentle notes of chamomile and pomelo fruit and tastes great with Fever Tree tonic. As much as I love gin and tonic, I wanted to use Bloom to create something a bit more special; a cocktail to serve at a Mother’s Day afternoon tea.
I’ve called my cocktail the Bloom Berry. It’s a delicious combination of the gin, cranberry juice, peach bitters and fresh peach. To make it, simply add some ice to a short glass, followed by 10 drops of peach bitters. Swirl the bitters around the glass, before adding 50ml of Bloom. Top up with cranberry juice and give it a good stir. Top with a couple of slices of fresh peach, and there you have it, a Bloom Berry.
Have you tried Bloom gin? Be sure to check out 31Dover.com for this – and a whole host of other – great drinks. Happy Sunday, everybody!1 like
