6 Netflix box sets to see you through the winter

The weather has really turned in Edinburgh over the past week or so. It has got much colder, so high up on my agenda is staying in and keeping warm. Weeknight cocktails out on the town have been traded for staying in, wrapping up under a cosy throw and drinking hot chocolate. And watching box sets. Lots of box sets.

I’m a huge lover of Netflix and so here is my pick of the six best box sets to see you through the winter.

1. The Bridge – This Scandinavian murder mystery drama will have you on the edge of your seat from the opening scenes.

2. The Good Wife – The UK version of Netflix has the first four seasons on offer. This easy-watching legal drama will have you hooked after only a few episodes.

3. Breaking Bad – I’m sure most of you will already be acquainted with Walt White, but I couldn’t possibly put together this list without a mention for this award-winning drama series.

4. Arrested Development – There’s a real collection of characters in this show. It’s light hearted and at just 20 minutes an episode, they are perfect for watching back-to-back.

5. Spiral – Based in Paris, this crime drama follows the French police force as they attempt to solve a series of gruesome crimes. This is a good one if you’re a fan of murder-mystery dramas.

6. The Killing – I have watched both the American and the Scandinavian version of The Killing and loved both in equal measure. And as you might have guessed, it is about … a killing.

Have you seen any of these? If you’re a Netflix lover and there’s other things on there I should be watching, let me know!

I am such a Netflix junkie. When I first got it I binge watched Gossip Girl. I’d never seen it before and it made me so happy! I tend to watch crappy films that Jim would never ever watch on it and I and I am proxying the walking dead on netflix usa but I might have to stop that as I keep having silly zombie dreams! I might start working through this list instead.

Em, I’m a huge Gossip Girl fan too, I love the fashion and the NYC lifestyle. I’ve heard good things about the Walking Dead, although you’re not the only person to tell me they’ve had zombie dreams because of it. I’ll need to see if I’m brave enough!x

I loved The Killing! I won’t spoil the ending for anyone on here who might watch it, but I thought it ended really well. I’ve heard great things about The Bridge, so I’ll start watching that I think x

Enjoy The Bridge Lisa. It was one of my favourites x

Oh man, the Killing. I was so obsessed with the US version. The two main characters had such incredible chemistry, they totally held the show together. I’ve thought about trying the scandinavian version, but I’m afraid I’ll just be disappointed!

I’ve really got out of the habit of box sets recently. I need to work out how to link my PC up to the telly and have me some lazy Netflix Sunday afternoons now it’s getting cold and rainy again!

    • chiara

Netflix Sunday afternoons are getting me through the winter, Gwen. I’m sure I should be doing something more productive with my time x

I love Netflix. I’ve been wanting to check out The Killing, but I’m afraid it’ll give me nightmares (I’m a wimp).
My 2 favorite shows on Netflix are Arrow and LOST. I watched Arrow super fast because it was extremely good! And the main actor is attractive, which helps. If you like suspense/crime, totally recommend it.
LOST is also great if you’re into suspense as well :)

Oooh, I’d never heard of Arrow, thanks for the recommendation Jenny, I’ll definitely check it out x

I have to confess I’ve never seen Breaking Bad. I’m always years behind everyone else when it comes to TV series though.

Love Netflix! At the moment we are working our way through House and Dexter! So many shows, so little time!

    • chiara

I loved Dexter, Cecilia. I haven’t watched House yet, but it’s on my list :-)

Great list. I haven’t seen most of these. I have seen Breaking Bad, and while I can understand why a lot of people rave about it, it definitely wasn’t for me. I stuck it out as long as I could but I just didn’t like any of the characters. I really prefer to have at least one character that I can root for.

I’m really enjoying all of the Netflix documentaries. I haven’t seen a bad one yet!

    • chiara

I had a few friends that felt the same way about Breaking Bad, so I can see where you are coming from. I haven’t watched any Netflix documentaries yet, I’ll have to look into them x

Ooh I haven’t heard of Fringe and Grimm, I’ll add it to my list. Thanks Roz x
