You might notice that a few things have changed around here. Wine and Olives has had a mini-makeover; I’ve wanted to shake things up for a while, but I still wanted to keep the blog as clean as possible. It hasn’t changed a huge amount – I think it now looks more professional and I’ve (hopefully) made it easier to keep in touch across various different channels. I do value all of your opinions, so please do let me know your thoughts on what I hope is the new and improved blog.
I don’t know anyone that doesn’t start the year with thoughts about the year ahead. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of the term ‘new year resolutions’. In my mind resolutions tend to fall by the wayside pretty quickly. Rather, I prefer making lists of thing I’d like to achieve, so I’ve applied the same philosophy to 2015. Some are small changes and others will take a lot more time and effort to achieve. Now I’ve written them down, it’s time to start putting the wheels in motion:
Waste less time – At work, I’m a really focused, head-down and get on with it sort of person. At home and outside of the office it is sometimes so different, especially when it comes to whittling away hours on my phone. I spend far too long visiting websites, flicking through social media, and just generally messing around. This is fine sometimes, but I know I could be investing my time in more valuable activities. So here’s to putting my phone down and picking up something more worthwhile.
Get more sleep – It seems I’m not the only one that has made this a priority this year. When I was reading Miranda’s Notebook post on her goals for this year, I completely resonated with what she was saying. I know that as an individual I need a lot of sleep, but some nights it’s all too tempting to just watch that next Netflix episode. So as of now, I’m setting proper bedtimes from Sunday to Thursday at least, to make sure I get my eight hours kip.
Raise my profile – This is two fold. I write for a living and I’ve been lucky enough to write for a range of fantastic blogs and magazines. But I want to take it further and build on my portfolio by working with some other lovely people. The other area I want to develop is this blog. I aim to blog at least three times a week and widen the range of topics I blog on, taking Wine and Olives into all things lifestyle. I’m hoping this will help to build my readership further.
Live in the moment – I really am the worst person for looking into the future. Sometimes I worry that I am missing what’s going on in the here and now because I’m too busy thinking about what’s coming next. I need to focus more and enjoy the moment whilst I’m in it and treat the future with unknown excitement, rather than trying to plan every detail.
Host more dinner parties – This is a slightly frivolous one in comparison to the other items on my 2015 to-do list, but it’s important to me nonetheless. I love inviting people into our home. Whether it’s for a cup of tea and a slice of cake, pizza and wine with my girlfriends or hosting a full on dinner part, I just love entertaining and I’m hoping to do a lot more of it this year.
So there you have it, my 2015 to-do list. Is there anything you would really like to do this year?3 likes
